Weekly Review - June 21-27

Sunday, June 21 - Happy Father's Day! I was in charge of Father's Day dinner. I made BBQ Italian Chicken. Janeene brought Corn on the Cob for the veggie and Kaylee helped her shuck the corn (and wore her chef's coat to help).

Monday, June 22 - We were planning on going to Lagoon for Roman's birthday, but he was sick so we didn't go. Instead Marla and I ran a few errands, and went to my house to get some stuff done.

Tuesday, June 23 - Wendy and Spencer went out of town for a few days so we went to babysit Roman. Katie was visiting for Roman's birthday. Gabby and Roman had fun coloring with Katie.

Wednesday, June 24 - We went to the zoo first thing in the morning. The weather was perfect and the animals were all out and about. We watched the Elephant Demonstration, The Bird Show, Played some musical instruments, and saw a lot of animals.

Thursday, June 25 - The kids built marbleworks towers to see how they could make the marbles go around. Some of the things they built worked much better than others. They could play with this toy for hours (if it weren't that they always wanted the same pieces).

Friday, June 26 - We didn't really do much...so for your viewing pleasure here's a butterfly that we found on Wendy's front lawn. It's wings were all wet so it couldn't fly. I moved it to the back patio and it fluttered it's wings really fast to dry them off for a while and then it flew away.

Saturday, June 27 - We went to the Farmer's Market and found lots of yummy produce treats (Peas, Cherries, Honey Butter, Tomatoes)...yum.

Farmer's Market

Have I mentioned how much I love the Farmer's Market...I absolutely LOVE it!!! Oh yeah, I did mention it just last week. Well, we went again this weekend and I still love it. This week we took Roman with us. I gave each of the girls $5 to buy whatever they wanted but once it was gone...it was gone. Kaylee knew exactly what she wanted to buy with her money. She has been talking about it all week and then was thrilled to find the right booth at the market. Last weekend I bought some locally made jam and they had been giving out samples. One of the samples that Kaylee got was for Cherry Bubblegum jelly (sounds gross right?) She loved it! So, that was the first place she went with her money. The other jams and jellies were super yummy but Kaylee hasn't convinced me to try the cherry bubblegum flavor. She also bought a bag of peas, and a balloon hat.
We got lots of local produce...Cherries, Peas, Tomatoes, Cantaloupe, and then some local honey butter (we bought some last week...but we ran out so we had to get more).

And of course the kids absolute favorite thing at the farmer's market is the balloon guys. Kaylee and Gabby each got a hat and Roman got a Giraffe (his favorite animal).

(Gabby bought a bag of Peach Ring gummies and a balloon with some of her money at the farmer's market, and then bought a dog stuffed animal at The Quilted Bear later with the rest of her money and named it "Bella")

Hogle Zoo

Today we went to Hogle Zoo with Marla, Katie, Roman, and my girls. Today was PERFECT weather for the zoo. We went first thing in the morning and there were several animal activities going on. We went and saw the new Madagascar exhibit, and after a few other exhibits we headed over to the Elephant Encounters Exhibit. There was a zookeeper volunteer with different musical instruments to demonstrate how everyone needs to work together to protect the environment. Each of the kids got an instrument.

After the the musical demonstration was over was the pachyderm program with the Elephant that is pregnant at the zoo. They showed how they check the elephants health everyday and how it exercises the elephants in a positive way.

After a few more animal exhibits we headed over to the Birds of Prey show. A HUGE hawk hit my head with it's wing while it was flying low over the audience and it REALLY freaked Gabby out. It took her a minute to calm down and for us to convince her the birds really were nice and not trying to get us but just trained to fly over the audience.

Then we headed over to the Conservation Carousel. Roman rode on a Giraffe, Kaylee rode a Elephant, and Gabby chose a Cheetah.

A few more animal exhibits, including the Giraffes (Roman's favorite). Then we headed for home. We had barely left the zoo before Roman was fast asleep. Gabby fell asleep shortly after and they both took good naps.

Weekly Review - June 14-20

I think instead of slowing down my life keep getting busier and busier. There is NO summer BREAK....just summer CRAZINESS!!!

Sunday - June 14 - We went to Sunday Dinner at my parent's house. Gabby fell asleep on our way there...and Kaylee figured out that she could make a rubber duck suction to her face.

Monday - June 15 - We spent the morning with my mom (shopping, lunch, etc.) and then went to Wendy's house.

Tuesday - June 16 - We rode the FrontRunner train up to the Ogden Union Pacific Train Station to see the Disney Christmas Carol Train Tour that was stopped there. We went with our friends Nicola, Noelle, Adam, and Maren; and with my sister Wendy and Roman.

Wednesday - June 17 - We had a cleaning day at home. I didn't get any pictures from today. I babysat some neighbor kids and almost lost my sanity...Not much to report on from today.

Thursday - June 18 - We decided to have a pajama day. We stayed in our pajamas all day long. I got all the laundry completely done and put away. The house looks amazing (Except vacuuming). The kids played the computer and watched a movie. It was a nice relaxing day for the kids and an exhausting house cleaning day for me (but at least my house does show for it).

Friday - June 19 - Wendy was invited to one of her friend's little girl's birthday party. She invited us to go too. They had rented a water slide and had some kiddie pools set up. The girls loved it. After leaving the party we went to the Gateway Plaza for the Chalk Art Festival. We watched artists drawing on the sidewalk and then the kids got the chance to show their artistic ability and draw.

Saturday - June 20 - Happy Birthday Roman!!! Roman had a Pirate Birthday Party. They had pirate hats and patches that they made, and then went on a treasure hunt and found a treasure box full of treasure.

These little kids went to Market...And a pirate party!!!

Yesterday morning we woke up and got things cleaned and then Marla, Kaylee, Gabby and I headed off to the Farmer's Market in Downtown Salt Lake. I love going to the Farmer's Market. I love the environment, and the fresh produce, and products, and just everything about it. We all came away with what we were looking for. I got some fresh local honey (and honey butter, and a whole bunch of other stuff), Marla got fresh peas, and Kaylee and Gabby found the balloon artist to make them balloon animals.

After the Farmer's Market we headed back over to Wendy's house to help her with Roman's birthday party. At the party they started out making pirate hats and eye patches.

After they were done making their hats and patches they followed clues that took them on a treasure hunt. At the end of the hunt they found a treasure chest full of loot bags.

Next the kids got to frost and decorate their own cupcake cones (and eat them)...and we sang Happy Birthday to Roman.

After cupcakes Roman got to open his birthday presents. He got quite the load!!! Here's a picture of what Marla, Kaylee, Gabby, and I got him.

The beginning of my crazy weekend!

After getting my house all cleaned up this morning I headed up to Salt Lake. Brenda had called to say that she had a Cheesecake Factory gift card and wanted me to meet her there to get a full cheesecake for at my parent's house (we are celebrating my b-day on Sunday). So, I met her at Cheesecake Factory and it was lunchtime so we decided to get lunch too. Then, Brenda paid for our lunch!!! It was really, really yummy. Thanks Brenda we enjoyed lunch!

After lunch (we had the SLOWEST waiter) I hurried over to Wendy's house because we were going to a birthday party for one of her friends little girls (Someone that she used to work with has a little girl a week yonger than Roman.) She had a water party. They had rented a water slide and set up some kiddie pools. There weren't very many kids there and the ones that were there mostly just hung out in the kiddie pools...but my kids had a blast on the water slides. Roman didn't want anything to do with the water or swimming. I tried to get him to go down the slide...and then Wendy tried to get him to go down the slide, he walked down the slide instead.

We left the party early so we could meet up with Spencer and the Gateway. We went to Build-a-Bear (Roman got a coupon for a free bear for his birthday) and I let each of the girls get a small stuffed toy. Roman hasn't been feeling well lately and wasn't completely agreeable about even being there or what he wanted the bunny that he made to wear.

We also went to The Gateway for the Sidewalk Chalk Festival. We usually go on Saturday when all the artists are finishing up their drawings but since our Saturday looks pretty crazy we decided to go today right as all the artists were starting their drawings. We watched artists draw, and then our own little artists drew in the kids art section.
