Radio Disney Water Fun Event - July 19

I had seen in the newspaper as well as on Facebook that Radio Disney was hosting a water play event at the Gallivan Center and it looked like it would be a lot of fun. Kaylee and Gabby had Gymnastics from 10:00-11:00 and the event started at 11. We went right after Gymnastics and met Wendy at The Gateway to ride Trax over to the Gallivan Center. When we got there it was really busy. The firemen had just turned on the hose on the fire truck for kids to play in. Kaylee wasn't to sure about it and wanted to stay right by me, but Gabby was thrilled to just get right out there are play in the water.

We looked around to see what there was to do and the kids really wanted to go on the little train ride which was the shortest line. All the other lines were forever long so we figured we would check them out after the train ride. The event said it was from 10 until noon...what it didn't say was that the vendors and activities didn't go until noon, they had to be cleaned up and gone by noon! So, really the event only went until about 11:30. The kids played in the fountain there, and a guy was walking around handing out water guns to the kids, but because of how long all the lines were we didn't get to do the face painting, or water slide, or anything else. The kids did get to go through the firetruck and check it out though. That was pretty fun.

Since the Water Fun event wasn't quite as eventful and fun filled as we had hoped we rode the Trax train back over to The Gateway and ate lunch, and then let the kids play in the fountains there for a while.

Happy Birthday Hudson!

My nephew Hudson turned one on July 19th. So, to celebrate Wendy had a family birthday party for him at the park. Since I just got a nice, new camera for my birthday she just had me take pictures of the birthday party. No one else took pictures, which was fine except that when I put the camera card in my computer ALL of the pictures were completely GONE!!! I was freaking out because they were there and had just disappeared! Wendy was freaking out because I was the only person that took pictures at Hudson's first birthday party. After talking to a few people, and downloading a recovery program on my computer I was able to recover the pictures and put them on my computer. I am so happy that we were able to figure out how to get the pictures back, and that we now know what to do if it ever happens again.

We had dinner at the park, and then Wendy got out the cakes that her very talented neighbor had made. She made a jungle/zoo animal cake as well as a small monkey cake for Hudson's smash cake. Hudson wanted to start picking at it but Wendy told him 'no' so then after we sang Happy Birthday to him and Wendy told him he could dig in he didn't want to anymore. He didn't want anything to do with the monkey cake any more. Wendy put some of it in his mouth to try to encourage him to dig into it but that just made him even more mad.

Wendy gave up on him digging into his smash cake and decided to get him cleaned up and changed into some clean clothes. Once he was done with the cake he was happy as could be again. Once Wendy had him stripped down he acted like he was going to dig into the monkey cake again, but it was a total fake-out. Roman was so happy that he got to eat the Monkey off of the big cake.

After we were done with cake and ice cream Hudson got to open his presents which he was so happy about.

Bingham Copper Mine & The "Up" house - July 13

Last year we heard on the radio the the Bingham Copper Mine was doing a free admission week to the museum and we went and had so much fun. This year they did it again, but due to the overwhelming response last year they changed it a little this year. We parked at the bottom of the mine and rode a shuttle up, which made it all the more fun for the kids. My mom went with us, as well as my brother-in-law Israel and my nieces and nephew. This year the museum was a lot more packed than it was last year so we decided to skip watching the video and just enjoy the exhibits, and looking at the mine.

The Bingham Canyon Mine is a HUMONGOUS open pit where they have dug away the mountain from the top right on down into a huge pit. They mine several minerals with the main one being copper, but there is also gold, silver, and several other valuable materials. The trucks that they drive through the mine are massive, and the wheels themselves are a lot taller than a person. Here's a few pictures from our mine adventures:

After we left the copper mine we went over to the "Up" house in Herrimann. It's a house that has just been built to look exactly like the house in the movie "Up". They took every single detail and built it into the house: paint, accessories, decor, and more. On the weekends they even fill up several balloons to float over the house. We weren't able to walk through the house, but I did zoom in through a window to get a picture of the wall painting. It was fun seeing the Up house.

Living Planet Aquarium - July 11

Kaylee has one really good friend from her old school that she has kept in contact with, they were in classes together for 3 years at school. They wrote to each other while we lived in Hawaii, and then they still wrote once we got back to Utah. We were finally able to set something up so the girls could get together and play again. We went to the aquarium and met up with Jessica, her brother Jack, and her mom. Kaylee and Jessica just picked up like they had seen each other yesterday. They had so much fun seeing each other again. The girls favorite area was the sting ray pool. The sting rays were extremely active because it was almost feeding time. They were even going up the sides of the pool. It was pretty cool. We have never seen them that active.

When the people came over to feed the sting rays it got way to crowded and instead of staying to watch we decided to move on to the other areas of the aquarium. We went over to the play area for a bit where the kids crawled through coral reef tunnels, then they played in a little boat.

We went over to the penguin exhibit, and the penguins were pretty active too. We sat and watched the penguins dive, swim, and waddle around before finishing up through the rest of the exhibits.

After we left the aquarium we went over to The Sweet Tooth Fairy to get cupcakes and treats. Kaylee was asking as soon as we left when we could go play with Jessica again.
