Utah State Fair

Yesterday we went to the state fair. We had a pretty good size group of us at the fair. About a month ago I won 4 tickets to the Utah State Fair on Facebook. I was so excited! Our group consisted of: My parents, Wendy's family, my family, Brenda, and Marla. We started out at the fair waiting for everyone to get there and in the same spot.

We were waiting right next to the pony rides. So, while we were waiting for Wendy's family to eat lunch the girls went on a pony ride.

Then we were off to see the sights! We went through all the animal barns, and a few exhibit buildings. Hudson really enjoyed the fair in style.

After walking through all the buildings we headed over to the Big Yellow Slide. Paul & Kaylee went down together at the same time that Gabby & I went down together. It was fun and the kids could have gone down this slide all day if we let them.

Right next to the Big Yellow Slide is another fun place that the kids love at the fair: Helping Hands on the Farm. They go around to different areas of a farm and perform tasks that you would find on a farm, then deliver the goods to market, and get paid for all their hard work. Then they can go to the grocery store and spend their hard earned money on a treat. Gabby and Roman bought little milk boxes, and Kaylee bought a string cheese.

We wandered the fair a bit more, went through a few more exhibit buildings, and then headed for home. It was another fun year at the fair!

Weekly Review September 5-11

Sunday, September 5 - We went to Wendy and Spencer's church for Hudson's baby blessing, and then over to their house for a brunch. After most people had left Paul sat down on the floor and played blocks with the kids that were still there. It looked like they were having fun.

Monday, September 6 - For Labor Day we had a family get-together at my parent's house to roast marshmallows and Starbursts. All the kids wore their tie-dye shirts that Marla had made for them a week before. We got all 7 of the kids lined up on the couch and got a picture of them.

Tuesday, September 7 - After the long holiday weekend we got back into the regular routine of our week. We saw the mailman coming and Gabby went out to wait for him to come to the mailbox.

Wednesday, September 8 - I don't know what started the kids on this...but they were practicing their "Scary faces" and growls. Here's Gabby's scary face.

Thursday, September 9 - I took my little dog Falkor in for a MUCH needed grooming. It got to the point where we couldn't even see his eyes. I am posting a before picture...but it's from a couple weeks ago and his hair was much longer than in the before picture. I just wanted to give you a general idea. After we were home from the groomer the girls had been playing with some scrap paper and ribbon and decided to make kites.

Friday, September 10 - I can't even imagine why I didn't get a picture for Friday. We did fun stuff with friends, I had my camera with me, I just didn't get out my camera. We started our day shopping with my mom, and Wendy. Then, Wendy had an appointment so we babysat Roman while she went to her appointment. We babysat him at chick-fil-a so the kids could play, and we could meet up with my friend Nicola and her kids. After the kids played for a while we sat down and ate lunch. After Wendy was back from her appointment my mom and I needed to go pick Jaren from school. All this stuff going on and I didn't even get my camera out.

Saturday, September 11 - About a month ago I won free tickets to the Utah State Fair. Time for the fair came around and I got a pretty big group of us together to go. Our group included: My parents, Wendy's family, my family, Brenda, and Marla. We had fun looking at the animals, exhibits, riding ponies, the big yellow slide, and more. The State Fair has always been a fun family tradition to go to and this year was no exception.

Flashback Friday

In July 2005 Marla, Kaylee, Gabby, and I went to the Tall Ships Festival in Port Townsend, Washington. We saw several ships, and got to get on them and look around. This picture is Kaylee (age 2-1/2) on one of the tall ships.

Labor Day Family Fun!

On Labor Day we didn't have any huge plans. We just had a nice day around the house, and then a family get-together in the evening which consisted of a nice deli-sandwich dinner, then roasting marshmallows and Starbursts.

All the kids wore the tie-dye shirts that Marla had helped them make a week before. We managed to get all 7 of the kids lined up on the couch for pictures in their shirts.

Then we made homemade Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream, and Peaches and Cream Ice Cream. They turned out amazing! Marla had to taste test the Strawberry Ice Cream, and my dad did quality control on the Peach Ice Cream

Weekly Review - August 29-Sept. 4

Sunday, August 29 - Kaylee loves her new cousin Hudson, and she loves to hold Hudson any chance she can get.

Monday, August 30 - We did homeschooling in the morning, then I took my parents and Spencer to the airport to go to a tax seminar in San Diego.

Tuesday, August 31 - Paul and I were offered free tickets to the John Mayer concert from the veteran's center. It was such a fun concert!

Wednesday, September 1 - For our homeschooling we were talking about Japan. One of the fun things we tried was origami. Kaylee and Gabby had fun making about 10 paper airplanes with their origami. I made this really cool star.

Thursday, September 2 - If you have never tried Golden kiwi then you are DEFINATELY missing out. Golden kiwi is one of the most amazing fruits ever! They have a kiwi taste to them but they are sweeter, not quite so tangy, and SOOOO much better! I have only ever been able to find them at Harmon's. So, let me tell you know: RUSH to your nearest Harmon's and stock up. You can thank me later...Seriously!!!

Friday, September 3 - Marla, the kids, and I went over to Janeene's house and took her kids their tie-dye shirts they had made with Marla last Sunday. My kids were already wearing their shirts so we got them together really quick for a picture on the couch.

Saturday, September 4 - We went and picked up our bountiful basket (produce co-op basket with a variety of produce), went to the Farmer's Market downtown, picked up my parents from the airport, and ate some of the most amazing homemade chicken lettuce wraps.

Flashback Friday

This is a picture of my grandparents (my mom's parents) from 1979. I love my grandparents dearly. I have always been especially close to my mom's side of the family. I loved going to help my grandparents in their garden (I did NOT however like snapping the beans when it came to canning), and playing in their backyard (climbing the tree), and seeing my cousins. I have so many happy memories from going to my grandparent's house growing up.

John Mayer Concert

Last week we got a phone call with an offer for some free tickets to the John Mayer concert at the Usana Amphitheater. I was so incredibly excited! The concert was Tuesday night (August 31) and it turned out to be a great concert.

Owl City was the opening band for John Mayer and they were excellent. Then it was onto the John Mayer show. He was an amazing entertainer/musician...that loves to talk...and loves to jam out. Some parts were interesting, some were funny, some were all around entertaining, and some were just awesome. All in all it was a great concert.
