Hee Haw Farms Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday, October 16 my family, as well as a small group of people that met up with us went to the Hee Haw Farms Pumpkin Patch. They have several Halloween/Autumn activities to do, as well as the pumpkin patch. When we got there the first thing the kids wanted to do was to go down the slides, through the hay maze, and a few other courtyard activities. Paul went on the slide with the girls, the girls took turns driving the tractor, and Marla and the girls jumped on the hay trampoline (I don't know what they called it)

My kids Love horses, and going on pony rides. Paul found ponies at the farm and called to let me know that he found horses. So, we went over and each of the girls took a turn on the pony.

Here are a few more pictures from the rest of our adventures at the farm:

Flashback Friday

This week's Flashback Friday is from last year October 17, 2009 when we went to Hee Haw Farms Pumpkin Patch. We are going to the same pumpkin patch again this weekend so I thought this would be a fun flashback picture of Kaylee, Gabby, and I from a year ago.

Mrs. Cavanaugh's Chocolate Factory

For school this week Kaylee, Gabby, and I have been learning about chocolate. Where it comes from, how it goes from the tree to actually becoming chocolate. We've also learned about all the different kinds of chocolates, and the things you can do with it. Wow! I have never know so much about chocolate as I do now...and I LOVE it! Since we have been learning about chocolate I figured it would be fun to go on a tour of a chocolate factory. My mom has wanted to go on a tour of the Mrs. Cavanaugh's factory too but never really had a reason to go, so this gave her a good excuse to go, and as a pleasant surprise Paul went with us too. Yes, he had class, but he decided he didn't want to go because they weren't really doing anything. So, my mom and Paul went with us to learn more about chocolate, see it being made, and taste the delicious product. YUM! It was a short tour with most of the tour being a video about where chocolate comes from. It was fun, informational, and well worth the visit.

Flashback Friday

This week for Flashback Friday I found a picture of my family from 2000. Along the back row there is: Chris, my Mom (Marilyn), Dad (Jim), Janeene; and along the front is: Brenda, Becky (Me), Wendy, and Marla. So, this is me when I was 19 years old.

Utah Museum of Natural History

Monday we went on a "Field Trip" to the Utah Museum of Natural History with Wendy, Roman, and my mom. On the first Monday of every month is free family day at the museum. The kids started out digging for dinosaur bones. Roman didn't like the rocks and didn't want to actually get all the way into the digging area but preferred to do his digging from the edge.

Then we checked out how the kids would "Size up" to a dinosaur's footprint and bone.

Next we checked out the native American exhibit. The kids found a Tee pee that the kids were all ready to move into and have a camp-out. Then we found a display where the kids were able to look up-close at real artifacts.

The next exhibit was "Bugs Alive" and let me tell you there were some disgusting bugs in there. There were cockroaches (Huge ones that I had hoped I left behind in Hawaii), massive wolf spiders, ants, and just bugs...ugh, my skin is CRAWLING just writing about it. There was also a Brine Shrimp bubble tank that Wendy found made for some funny pictures of the kids. So, we have bubble Roman, Kaylee, and Gabby. Gabby found the puppet show area and put on an excellent show with Kaylee and Roman. The show included a frog, ants, a bumblebee, and spider.

On our way out of the museum there was a dinosaur that eats coins and talks when you feed him coins. The kids each fed him a coin and he talked in his deep raspy voice to them. Later Roman told Wendy that he shouldn't eat coins because that would make him sick, and isn't good for him.

Tracy Aviary

Friday, October 1 - Kaylee, Gabby, and I went to Tracy Aviary with Wendy, Roman, and Hudson. We grabbed some lunch and ate on the grass at the park and then went into Tracy Aviary to see all the different birds. Our kids love animals, and right now my kids are really into owls because we are reading the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series which is a book where the characters are owls.

We found a kids sand play area with different tools to play in the sand with that represented different type of bird beaks. The Toucan tool was pliers, a big scoop for a pelican, etc. The kids loved playing in this area for quite a while.

After playing for a while we continued on and saw the huge eagles, vultures, and some other huge birds.

I'm not sure why...but Roman laid down and started rolling down the sidewalk. Then it turned into all three of the kids rolling down the sidewalk. Crazy kids!!!

The last thing we saw before we left was a great horned owl. The kids were thrilled to find the owl and watch it for a few minutes.
